Cottage Holidays in Wales For Mothers' Day

As one day is not really enough to give proper thanks to our mothers, many people choose to opt for a short break or weekend away instead. So if you are struggling to think of a unique idea for a Mothers' Day present, why not take her away to Wales? It is not just this special day that falls in March - the first of the month is also St David's Day, when the Welsh celebrate their patron saint. Go away for a slightly early Mothers' Day break and you can find yourself surrounded by cultural celebrations. In Cardiff, the capital city, there is the famous St David's Day parade. You could settle in one spot and watch it go past or, if you are up for a walk, follow it on its route from Cardiff Bay through Lloyd George Avenue to its conclusion in Dumfries Lane. But if you wanted to be somewhere quieter with your mother, you do not have to be in the capital to mark the patron saint's celebration. Festivals take place all over the country, with many sites of national interest joining in the fun. As just two examples, you could try visiting Llandeilo's Dinefwr Park and Castle, or Aberglasney Gardens in Carmenthenshire for St David's Day events, letting yourselves go around a heritage site and enjoying beautiful greenery at the same time. Welsh gardens, indeed, could be ideal for a Mothers' Day outing - after all, many of us give our mothers flowers on the day. Aberglasney Gardens, which surrounds Aberglasney House, hosts a number of beautiful areas to wander, such as the Pool or Cloister Gardens, the Lower and Upper Walled Gardens and pretty structures like the Gatehouse or Yew Tunnel. There is also the famous National Botanic Garden of Wales, with its many plants and species of wildlife. Even if you miss St David's Day, the Botanic Garden hosts many musical and theatrical performances throughout the year. If you want a unique souvenir from your trip to give as a Mothers' Day gift, Wales has plenty of places where you can buy traditional handicrafts. Should you be in Glanrafon, try visiting the Glassblobbery Studio and Gallery where you can watch glass being worked and then buy a beautiful gift afterwards to present to your mother. As well as handmade glass sculptures shaped as animals and flowers, you can purchase slate wine racks, ceramics and jewellery. Wales has everything you need to show your mother how special she is.
